diffusions
Everyone's favorite hoodie design duo, Mike & Chris, is venturing into shoes and jersey tops this Holiday '07! As well as a small, but well designed jewelry line by LU. I don't have pictures because I left the look book at work. I hope it will be available online soon though, the shoes all have curved wood block heels and are the same supple leathers as the jackets.

scarface
Michelle Pfeiffer was ice queen supreme in Scarface. Not to condone bathing in mountains of cocaine and getting shot at by your mob boss lover, but that film gives her wardrobe a danger-luxury edge.

exit entrance
We got a new magazine at work today; Exit. Its nearly 11"x14" format, bi-annual, and over 300 pages. Termed from their own site: "Exit is a new cutting-edge, limited-edition, bi-annual, super slick, glossy, image-led magazine.", and it's true. It is all photo work and fashion. No prices, two articles, and a mere 19 ads in 300 pages. There is a list of stockists in the back, but otherwise it was a purely visual experience of epic photos, art, and innovative fashions along with a section on portraits/portraits as beauty.
clever design
This month's SURFACE is the design issue, which is stellar, just like the fashion issue before it. They have a small feature on UK lighting designer & photographer Stuart Haygarth who most recently made an enormous chandelier from re-purposed glasses. At first glance, it looks like several crystalline disks linked in a chain fashion, but upon closer inspection you really can see each former glasses owners personality contributing to the whole. This particular chandelier is composed of various children's toys and plastic everyday objects.
What a good concept.
thank you fug girls
An article from NYmag on how to hire a celeb stylist. Which also takes a stab at Amanda Bynes and Sarah Jessica Parker designing lines for discount retailer Steve & Barry's
A few gems:
"Amanda; simply saying you want to move to New York because it's chic (and while your roots are showing) does not make you qualified to design good pants."
"Just because Patricia Field can stuff Carrie Bradshaw in something avant-garde doesn't mean Sarah Jessica Parker knows what she's talking about in real life. There’s a big difference between being able to pick out a pretty dress (or having a pink-haired crone do it for you), and being able to design one."
I, personally, love this. Especially after SJP said her clothes were going to be for 'real women..who need to decide how to pay the electric bill and look good'. SJP is from Nelsonville, Ohio. For those of you who have never paid a visit, the only thing worth while there is a boot factory. Also, in order to make these 'celeb-designed' lines as chic as their creators desire, but still fit into the mandated $9.99-$19.99 retail price range, a lot of quality and construction will have to be sacrified that or they will alllll be made of cotton jersey. I can't wait to see what comes from this. In a schadenfreude sort of way.

safe word
10 ways to work a little (subtle) bondage dressing into your wardrobe without going full on Giles or Alaia. Not that I don't love both of their work immensley, but there is only one Naomi/Carine/Kate and they could make a zip lock bag and some shoe string look haute.

disappointed
Urban outfitters now carries Cheap Mondays.
Maybe these will go the way of the technicolor twill pants that they carried for about 2 seconds last winter; exist for a minute and disappear from shelves. I wish Cheap Monday all the best(and their new line, Qoniak), but I just don't want to see it oversaturate or trend-out and leave the market for good.
