another reason britain rules on US

no pictures no vids for this post.

recent studies have showed that the UK has a higher percentage of obese residents than the US. wooo 'merica #1..or #2 or whatever. however, when it comes to television shows about slothy fruit & veg allergic citizens the BBC rules all over FOX, NBC, ABC, CBS, VH1, combined. specifically, the program, 'you are what you eat' with dietary doyenne gillian. who is NOT a timid lady. she will make you shit in a box then tell you its a pathetic showing of intestine matter. i have seen grown adults vomit when the Madame G makes them try something out of there comfort zone, such as, A FUCKING APPLE. the men, women, and children are not coddled and made to follow a strict diet and excercise regime and surprise surprise they usually lose 2 stone in 8 weeks, which is over 20lbs. how is it that in america we have gentle hour long series devoted to easing people into light walking and moderate diet changes when the man, that formerly ate so much food in a week it fully covered the surface of buffet table that could seat 20, lost 4 stone and avoided a scad of deadly health problems. maybe because american's stake out on 24hour vigils attempting to spot and detect things that may be offensive or rude or uncouth. just watching the program has made myself and others more conscious of what goes in and does or doesn't come out of our bodies where the american versions just make me want a snack.

fashion prophecies

in this youtube clip famous (unnamed in the vid) designers in the 30s predict what women will be wearing in the year 2000. spicily accurate depictions of sheer panels, dresses that can go from day to night with structural adjustments, and men that wear uniforms with ample pockets for holding telephones and candy for women (a uniformed man i know needs to get on that candy game)

in related news: i was flipping through a collection of magazine tearings from 2002/2003 that touted NEONS and SHEERS and FLORALS to be all the rage for spring. fret not. whats old is new is old again. good design, really good design (not juicy couture sweat suits) is always where it's at.

icy land

Studiobility in Iceland has a running exhibit of Gudrun Lilja Gunnlaugsdottir an Icelandic designer. Coolhunting made a post of her wares and I cannot get over the curiosity cabinet. It is so clean and functional, but intricate and vibrant. The overall project, titled "Soul of a Nation" will exhibit at the Reykjavik Art Museum in 2009. Mark your calender.

woooood

Audrey Kawasaki: Mayoi Michi exhibit in California has already sold ever single piece being displayed. All are oil on blocks of wood, but still appear ephemeral and light. pretty pretty princess.
