English trad-label kick//rainrainrain

Aquascutum. Waxed-deconstructed trench cape with hood. Give it to me. Especially, since NY has been epicly rainy recently. The boots are equally desirable, though I am unsure of their water-resistant properties.

burberry fall

Burberry Prorsum is getting more and more medieval on our asses with pointy leather gloves, metallic faceted stone encrusted sweaters, and deconstructed armor-like trenches. Despite, F/W runway offerings they are still a brand to look to for classic and stylish cashmere cold weather goods. Net-a-porter has a small selection of cashmere elbow length-slouch gloves and abstracted plaid scarves that need to find their way into my closet.

get ye to barney's co-op!

Sorry for the lapse in posts; I've been travelling. However, while on my adventures I confirmed that Barney's Co-Op end-of-season sale is ridiculous awesome. The online prices are good, don't get me wrong, but the stores have such a better selection and are offering an extra 30% off right now. I was seriously tempted by these cloud wash Earnest sewn jeans (mine were in lavender), but no matter how cheap they were would not make them fit into my already overloaded dresser. Stock up on MJ shoes for 70$! 70$! Along with KA7 sweaters for under 60$ and ACNE jeans for 65$(!) which will transition seamlessly into fall.

fall 07 notes: part 5

Fall is the most expensive season both to produce and purchase. You, or atleast I, neeeeed a new bag, and some boots, and some sturdy heels, and a new scarf or two, and a belt for your coat, and and and... you get the picture. This fall there will be no shortage in sculptural heels, graphic frame bags, sculptural heels, art deco references, cat eyeliner, and quirky texture mixing. I may be sitting infront of the air conditioner with a fan also blowing on me as I type this, but thick tights, cashmere gloves, and boots are prancing around my head like sugarplums on Christmas eve.

fall 07 notes: part 4

External protection is back with a vengeance. No more shrunken blazers or skin tight leather jackets, though I am not discouraging their wear during more chilly-to-brisk months, because I will never get rid of mine. Though, for the dead of winter I want something I can curl up under and that will keep snow from touching my midsection. A nice cocoon shape with new belt or sleeve detailing will keep me warm and make my mother happy when she finds out that yes, I can fit a sweater underneath my coat.

Finally, all of my childish wild dreams are coming true! You want to dress like Wendy from Peter Pan? go ahead! Polo playing tribe member? Balenciaga will take care of you. Wood sprite? check. Winter time acrobat? mmm hmmm. Arctic circle fox collector? check. Smart sultry art guard? yes yes yes. Just remember more is more, patterns need friends too, and statement accessories are never out.

Midwest winters mean one thing: cold and cold and more cold and the kind of cold that creeps up your pant legs and sits inside your wool tights pestering your bones. Sweaters and pants and tights and coats are absolutely needed at all times. Sweaters tend to take center stage in the form of plush outer layers protecting your insides from hypothermia. This seasons offerings of knit mixing, art deco color blocks, pointelle stitch, and voluminous wraps will keep you toasty without looking as bland as the winter landscape.

Good news fall 07: dresses still (and always will) rule. I am not one for anything frilly, ruffly, sugary, or overtly femme, but I cannot escape the need to own atleast 60 dresses. Over all very few of the shows were super twee and the restrained vibe coupled with intellegent pleating, PVC leggings, or untrustworthy shoes/makeup are all things I subscribe to. Things to look out for: neckline interest; re-routed volume; cocoon shapes; selective embellishment.
