NewsFlash

So there are talks that "The Devil Wears Prada is in preliminary development to become a stage musical." Barf please no. I mean it was fine as a book and I guess fine as a movie, but theaaaatree no please. I'm just picturing it being even more anti-fashion industry and more pro-underdog. Newsflash: fashion isn't nice, Anne Hathaway, and if you were in real fashion you would not be getting an Ugly Betty style make-over and win the icy hearts of the fashion overlords. You'd be broke and jobless. For real. immadip out and read W.

sept. fashion style layouts

I was having a conversation with a very creative minded male about my distaste for current editorials that reference Russo-Boudoire-Jazz Age-20s-head-dress-styling. After remarking that, granted, I don't like them partially because I never was and probably never will be 'into' the 20s other than as a historical reference for cut and drape. Adding that, generally, a lot of females are so in love with the 20s that it is bar none, their favorite time period. Which, illicits this response from the attentive partner "I bet you wouldn't like the 20s so much if you lived there, now would you? You'd have no job, no eats, be knocked up, and there's no drank. Bummer" So to make this worthwhile, you can make your own decisions from Vogue's Sept 07 Editorial and W's Sept 07 Editorial with Gwyneth Paltrow; the W just looks fresher and not as played out. /minirant

refinery29

Refinery29 is always a great source for new designers and new news. More accessible info than WWD, but less trashy than ONTD; not to say I don't read both of those as though they were the evening news. R29 is currently showing a beautifully written article on Tillmann Lauterbach's beautifully edited and designed collection(see above image for sample).

Also, scroll down and look at the article on the offerings from new label Heimstone (www.heimstone.com for all looks and retailers) The combination of familiar shapes and hyper-insightful fabrics and details. Consume it. Be inspired and enlightened.

Topshop Final Clearance

Topshop is having an end of season final clearance which includes a lot of the Kate Moss for Topshop clothes. Prices USD 20$-70$, but none of it is labeled KateMoss for Topshop so you'll just have to use your eye balls and search. Though, there are much better finds to be had such as this geometric floral dress with mini ruffle. or the 100% silk utilitarian dress, that with a ethno scarf and grey knit tights you can ref. balenciaga for a 800th of the O.G cost.

milk doll

Drinking milk puts me on edge. I just don't like it. However, I have always loved milky-toned colors. Eggshell, alabaster, cream, crème, dust, cloud, milk. I have as much milk colored or milk washed clothing as I do the deepest black. It's chic, season-less, and hard to wear; which is a testament to the wearer's own versatility. I'll admit it, I own white jeans, not ski-white, but summer-time-cloud-white with underflecks of the lightest blue suggesting that I wore them from their original indigo shade into their current spectral hue (I did not). Though, all an white outfit is not something to be tried off the runway or outside of Miami/Jersey since the white quickly loses its innocent cast and turns lurid if not lewd. Also, an all white outfit is a bitch to keep clean. Temper the lights with heavier pieces and layers to minimize stains and generally just look awesome.

clockwise from top left: tuxedo jacket: 3.1 phillip lim; pleated woven top: chloe; light gray cardigan: miu miu; grey zippered boyfriend jeans: stella mccartney; black patent tote: pauric sweeney; skull scarf: alexander mcqueen; short sleeve jacket: reyes; peter-pan collar dress: tibi; suede and patent boots: marc by marc jacobs; gray knit tights: missoni; white zippered waist dress: chloe

Signe Chanel

There is a documentary on YouTube that gives an inside look at how top haute-couture home on Rue de Cambon cranks out collections not with little double C emblazoned elves like I would want to believe, but with the hard work of very skilled seamstresses, embroiderers, pattern makers, illustrators, and one Karl Lagerfeld. The attention to detail is mind-bending, even in just the first episode a seamstress rips out two rows of beading and re-constructs a hyper-intricate dress for a haute-couture client who demands the dress be delivered to her (at the Ritz, naturellement) in less than an hour. There are a gajillion parts, but they are all sub-titled if your ears have trouble with the rapid-fire weirdly lilting and dramatic french of the narrator.

Tv Fame is just what is sounds like

NYmag is running an article profiling the winners and contestants of such Bravo reality shows as TopChef, TopDesign, and Project Runway. Its 7 pages long, but a kind of sad look at what happens to your favorite characters after all the stage lights are shut off. Though in the end, it really is up to the contestants to 'make it work'.
